Second XI T20s

Report

Again, Weetwood hosted two T20 games, this week against Warwickshire but unlike last week where we won both games the spoils were shared with our visitors winning the first game and Yorkshire the second.

Winning the toss we batted first and found ourselves 14-2 then 44-3 and it was left to Jack Leaning and Tim Bresnan to get us back into the game with a partnership of 75 in 62 balls. Leaning reaching his 50 from 36 balls with 5 fours and Bresnan finishing 42 not out from 42 balls with 2 fours and a six. Our final total was 137-4.

Opener, Oxley was caught by George Hill from Tim Bresnan’s bowling with the score on 11 and with the total on 29 Pollock was dropped by Jack Leaning – he went on to make 64 from 41 balls with 10 fours and a six. Lamb fell shortly after caught and bowled by Leaning and two balls later he bowled Mellor to leave them 92-4. Mellor struck 21 from 16 balls before being brilliantly caught by Jared Warner at mid off but they reached their target with three balls to spare to win by four wickets.

Warwickshire batted first in the second game. Pollock was first to go this time but not before he made 34 from 18 balls with 4 fours and a six. The momentum was continued by Lamb who made 50 from 41 before being well caught by George Hill at long off from Jack Leanings bowling – the score was then 122-4 with more than four overs to go and their final total was 157-5.

Matthew Revis came in for this game and made an excellent 49 from 32 balls with 6 fours and when he departed, stumped, we were 82-2 in the ninth over. Jack Leaning made 13 but it was left to Jordan Thompson to guide us home with 4.1 overs to spare. It was, again, though a matter of dropped catches – Jordan was dropped three times on his way to a belligerent 68 not out from 34 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes, including 1 four that Umpire, Neil Pratt, did exceptionally well to get out of the way of before being hit.

Tuesday 16th sees us start a three-day Championship game against the same opposition at Stamford Bridge.
