On a hot and humid day Surrey won the toss and elected to bat.

The bowling was opened by Ben Coad and the returning Matthew Fisher and after eight overs they had reduced Surrey to 4-2, Fisher taking both wickets to fall.

Ben Coad was replaced by Matthew Waite and in his first over he removed Batchelor and Surrey were 17-3. Malik and Atkinson steadied the ship and remained unbeaten at lunch with the score advanced to 110.

Fisher and Coad opened the bowling after lunch and Fisher took his third wicket when he had Malik caught behind for 52, made from 72 balls with 8 fours and a six. Imtiaz joined Atkinson and they took their total to 201 before the former was lbw for 29.

Atkinson had reached his half century from 103 balls with 8 fours and had advanced to 97 from 178 balls when he was caught and bowled by Josh Sullivan. McKerr became the third Surrey batter to reach 50 but he was caught behind off Matthew Waite for 57 from 77 balls.

Stuart Meaker had made 49 from 70 balls when he was bowled with the score on 326-8 and before another ball was bowled the players left the field due to bad light and play was abandoned for the day.
