Game One

Scorecard

Our visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Yorkshire lost Ben Birkhead in the fifth over with the score at 25 but Alex Lees and Jack Leaning advanced the score to 119 before Jack was caught at long off for 30 from 23 balls – they had added 94 in only 62 balls. Alex departed two overs later having made 78 from 62 with 7 fours and 3 sixes. At this point we were 119-2 with four overs remaining. However the final 24 balls realised a further 46 runs and we closed on 165-3 as Matthew Waite finished 29 not out from 14 balls.

Josh Shaw had Westbury caught behind in the second over and Rhodes was caught at point by Tom Loten in Karl Carvers first over to reduce Worcestershire to 65-2 in the eighth over. Tom Fell and Josh Dell then took the score to 116 (adding 51 in 28 balls) and with 8 overs left they required only 50 to win.

Fell was then bowled by Ed Barnes for 65 from 37 balls and five balls later Shaw had former Tyke Ryan Gibson caught behind for 3. Dell made 33 from 28 and when he was caught at mid off by Jack Leaning they required 19 from 22 balls. Josh Shaw claimed his third wicket but going in to the last over they needed only seven to win with four wickets left.

The over was to be bowled by 17 year old George Hill – he conceded a single from the first ball but followed this with two dots and a bye – a further dot left them needing five from the final ball but this resulted in a catch meaning Yorkshire won by four runs – a result appreciated by the large, vociferous home crowd.

GAME TWO

Scorecard

Worcestershire batted first and lost Rhodes in the fifth over for 17 with the score at 24. Fell joined Westbury and in the next 59 balls they added 105, Westbury was very well taken at deep mid wicket by Bilal Anjam for 42 from 34 and contributions from the others were limited as Tom Fell manipulated the bowling very well.

He reached 50 from 30 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes and went to an excellent hundred from only 21 further balls striking 3 more fours and a six and he finished 120 no from 59 balls.

Our reply got off to a poor start with Waite and Birkhead dismissed with only 4 on the board. Andrew Hodd made a run a ball 16 but the major partnership was between Jack Leaning and Bilal Anjam – they added 82 in 56 balls before Bilal was caught at mid off for 27 – Jack continued but was dismissed for 56 from 42 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes and we finished 171-9 to lose by 38 runs.

John Virr – 2nd XI Scorer
