Scorecard

Yorkshire completed their second Championship win of the season by six wickets with over 20 overs to spare.

Despite a victory looking less than favourable at lunch on day two, Yorkshire found themselves 255 behind with only three wickets remaining. The White Rose’s last three wickets took us to a deficit of 122. Leicestershire started day three 231 ahead with three wickets remaining.

It took Yorkshire 36 minutes to take wicket number eight when Ed Barnes bowled Dickinson for 14, the score 150-8. A further 20 runs were added before the visitors were dismissed for 170, leaving them 292 ahead with a minimum of 77 overs remaining.

The bowling plaudits go to Karl Carver 3-37 from 12 overs (five wickets in the game) and Ed Barnes 4-28 giving him match figures of 17.1-3-47-6 alongside his 38 runs.

The experienced duo of Andrew Hodd and Azeem Rafiq “took the bull by the horns” and added 46 in seven overs before Hodd was caught, low down at second slip – making 33 from 26 balls. Saf Imtiaz joined his skipper and saw us through to lunch without further loss, 69-1 from 11 overs.

After lunch, Leicestershire took the total to 171 when Rafiq was caught at deep square leg with a century in sight. Rafiq made an excellent 90 at a run a ball including 14 fours and had added 125 with Imtiaz for the second wicket.

Imtiaz and Waite advanced to 225 at tea and further still to 260 when Imtiaz (who had made a century against Yorkshire recently for MCC Young Cricketers) fell lbw for 93 from 129 balls. Tom Loten was dismissed in the next over but Matthew Waite and Jordan Thompson guided the White Rose to victory. Thompson finished 16 not out from 15 and Waite 50 not out from 69 balls.

Yorkshire – 23 points, Leicestershire – 8 points

John Virr – 2nd X1 Scorer
