Yorkshire ended day two leading by 135 with nine wickets in hand.

Resuming at 43-0, Warwickshire had reached 84 when Jared Warner had Sibley caught behind for 26. Banks was lbw to Shaw for 0 and when Umeed was caught and bowled by Karl Carver our hosts were 136-3.

This became 152-4 when Carver claimed his second victim having Yates caught at second slip by Alex Lees. Throughout all this Will Rhodes remained steadfast – his 50 was made from 46 balls with 10 fours and shortly before lunch he had reached 95 from 100 balls with 16 fours when he was caught behind from the bowling of James Logan. His 95 being made from a total of 166-5. Lunch was taken with no further loss – 178-5.

The sixth wicket partnership had added 55 when Thomson was lbw to Carver and 18 runs later Chris Wright was run out after smart work by George Hill. At this stage Mellor was unbeaten on 43 from 76 with 7 fours – he reached his 50 nine balls later. He and Singh added 44 for the eighth wicket (Singh lbw to Carver for 28). The last three wickets fell for 11 runs as Warwickshire were dismissed for 298, just missing out on maximum batting points.

Mellor made 64 from 116 balls. Karl Carver finished with 4-63 from 21 overs, 2 wickets each for Shaw and Logan (2-38 from 20).

A lead of 40 was built on with an opening stand of 80 between Alex Lees and James Wharton. Lees was caught at cover for 36 from 50 balls with 4 fours but at the close Wharton was unbeaten on 36 from 97 balls with 4 fours.
