Scorecard

Resuming on 70 without loss Yorkshire had a mixed morning.

Ben Birkhead was bowled by Luke Wood in the first over of the day without adding to his score, however Saf Imtiaz joined Harry Brook and they added 42 in 61 balls before Saf was caught behind from the bowling of Jack Blatherwick for 17.

Prior to the fall of the second wicket Harry reached 50 from 54 balls with 9 fours and he went on to make 71 from 79 balls with a further four when he became Blatherwicks second wicket.

Jack Leaning was taken at second slip by Lyndon James to give Mark Footitt his first victim; Matthew Waite made 7 from 39 balls and Josh Shaw 2 from 14 and at lunch we were 162-6.

Matt Carter had dismissed both Waite and Shaw and after lunch he was mainly responsible for wrapping up our innings – the last 4 wickets did total 49 runs but we were all out for 211 – Ed Barnes made 20 from 28 but Carter’s final figures were 16.1-11-14-5. We trailed by 221 and were asked to follow on.

Brook and Birkhead, again, opened and 35 were taken from the deficit before Brook was lbw to Matt Milnes and Saf Imtiaz made only 3 before he was caught at the wicket. Ben Birkhead had made 31 from 45 with 4 fours when he was run out.

Matthew Waite and Jack Leaning advanced our score to 94 when Jack was lbw to Matt Carter’s first ball and with 18 overs remaining we needed a recovery. Matthew Waite was joined by Tom Loten and they remained unbeaten at the close – Matthew 27 no from 79 balls and Tom 45 no from 63 with 6 fours and a six. We closed on 157-6, the partnership worth 63 but the deficit still 64.
