Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat.

Alex Lees and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, got Yorkshire off to a flyer bringing up the 50 from only 27 balls. The latter went to his half century from 21 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes and he went on to make 75 from 32 balls with three more maximums. The opening partnership had made 105 from 53 balls.

Josh Shaw struck in each of his first two overs removing Thurston and Curran. Zaib made 51 from 31 before being caught at deep mid-wicket. Brierley 32 from 35 and Kleinveldt 46 from 17 (6×4;2×6) provided some late impetus but Shaw returned to finish with 4-14 from his four overs as we recorded a victory by 28 runs. There were two wickets each for James Logan and Karl Carver and 1 each for Thompson and Leaning.

Match Two

Scorecard

Game two proved to be a mirror image of the first game – Our hosts winning the toss, batting first and getting off to a flyer.

Jordan Thompson claimed the first wicket but not before Northants had reached 75 after only 38 balls – that was Thurston who had made 40 from 22 balls. His partner, Ben Curran went on to reach his half century from 22 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. He was the third wicket to fall, having reached 94 from 45 balls with a further 5 fours and 2 sixes.

The run rate slowed a little following his departure but they posted 212-7 with Jordan Thompson taking 3-37 from his 4 and James Logan 3-10 from 2.

Alex Lees, again opened our reply but this time with Jack Leaning as his partner – Jack was caught at long on for 8 with the score at 58. Tom Kohler-Cadmore joined Lees and they added 83 in only 39 balls when Alex was caught at long off for 69 from 40 balls including 10 fours and a six – however 141-1 quickly became 154-5 including the major wicket of Tom Kohler-Cadmore – he made 58 from 24 balls including 4 consecutive sixes before being caught at long off.

Hope remained but we finished 6 runs short on 206-9.

We move to Derborough tomorrow for the start of a 3 day Championship game.
