Scorecard

On a cool, overcast day a young Yorkshire side won the toss and elected to bat first.

James Wharton and Matthew Weston added 45 for the first wicket before the latter was caught at second slip for 17. Yash Vagadia joined Wharton and they took the score to 109 when Vagadia was caught at long leg on the stroke of lunch – he had made 29 and Wharton remained 42 not out from 89 balls.

Resuming after lunch, Vagadia completed his half century from 109 balls with nine fours before being caught behind on 55, with the score at 151. 17-year-old Harry Allinson joined skipper, Ben Birkhead and the pair took the score to 177 before Birkhead was run out at the non-strikers end when the bowler got a hand to a straight drive. At this point, Allinson was on 14 and remained unflustered as, in only his second game for the second XI, he reached 50 from 102 balls with nine fours. Allinson finished the day unbeaten on 98 from 165 balls with 16 boundary fours.

Making his debut, Noah Priestley was bowled for nine and Mat Pillans made 40 from 63 with four fours and two sixes – he added 72 with Allinson in 132 balls and Dominic Leech was caught at cover from the final ball of the day to leave Yorkshire at 324-7 and Allinson needing two runs for a maiden century.
