Report

Following yesterday’s truncated play we resumed on time this morning and struck the third ball of the day when Will Fraine took a catch in the gully region flying high to his right hand side from the bowling of Matt Pillans.

This brought Fynn Hudson-Prentice to the crease and he and Wood increased the scoring rate without taking any undue risks but also by surviving one or two scares. The former reached his half century from 51 balls including 7 fours and he was soon followed by Wood who reached his from 87 balls with 9 fours. They had added 104 in 155 balls when Hudson-Prentice was caught and bowled by James Logan for 74 from 77 balls with the addition of 2 fours and a six. At lunch Derbyshire were 176-4.

The afternoon session started as the first session of the day had as Smit was caught behind off Thompson for 13 in the first over of the afternoon. Watt joined Wood and they 53 in 92 balls – 229-6, however during this partnership both batters were dropped in the same over off Ed Barnes. Wood reached his century from 193 balls and at tea he remained unbeaten on 114 from 280 balls and had added 65 with Marshall for the seventh wicket.

The evening session commenced and we had to wait until the second over after tea for a wicket – Wood lbw to Matthew Fisher for 117 from 215 balls. In the next over Matt Pillans bowled Conners and when Pillans had his 4th wicket, Karvelas caught at 2nd slip by Matt Revis Derbyshire were 304-9. Marshall was joined by Taylor and when they declared they had added 75 in 78 balls – Marshall finished 71 no but it was Taylor with 45 no from 39 balls that did most of the damage.

The declaration was followed by Yorkshire forfeiting their first innings and Derbyshire their second leaving Yorkshire 380 to win – however the rain brought an early close and this leaves Yorkshire with 96 overs tomorrow to attempt to reach their target.
