Yorkshire Social Club
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and Leeds Peer Support Service work in partnership to create an experience to connect people to their love of cricket. Catch Up Club provides facilitated sessions for people living with dementia and their partners/friends to be involved in the cricket experience.
Sessions vary from sporting reminiscence sessions to tai chi and take place at Emerald Headingley Stadium. Whatever the session, there’s tea and biscuits involved.
Visits to YCCC started in January 2015 and has flourished since, creating a strong support network for sports and more specifically cricket supporters who live with dementia.
Each year, the YCF look to provide those seeking more social opportunities the chance to watch Yorkshire County Cricket Club play at Headingley Cricket Ground, free of charge. Those who receive tickets for games either already attend one of the YCF’s groups, or are members of local neighbourhood network services and social action groups.
This offer has proven successful, with hundreds of people taking up the offer of tickets each year.
We are dedicated to ensuring staff and volunteers are trained as dementia friends regularly. By “Working to Become Dementia Friendly” we want to create a welcoming environment at Headingley Cricket Ground so that anyone who comes through the gates is provided with the right level of care and respect.
