  • Shadab Khan arrives at Headingley with a superstar reputation.

A Pakistan international across all formats of the game, Khan will play 11 group games in this season’s Vitality Blast across two spells at the start and end.

Khan is a leg-spinning all-rounder who can bat up and down the order and has important captaincy experience to boot.

Aged only 23, he is a player with a huge amount of T20 experience all around the world, though representing Yorkshire Vikings will mark his first foray into county cricket.

Islamabad United, for whom he has only just starred, Brisbane Heat, Sydney Sixers, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rawalpindi, Edmonton Royals. We could name more.

He had signed to play for Surrey in 2020, though his contract was cancelled when Coronavirus took hold of the world.

Khan, born in Mianwali, has just had an outstanding campaign in the Pakistan Super League, leading his side to the semi-finals in March.

He was the outstanding player in the tournament with 19 wickets in only nine games – the second best haul of anyone – as well as scoring 268 runs, including a best of 91.

Khan batted at four through the competition and impressed Ottis Gibson, who was there working for Multan Sultans.

He made his T20, first-class and List A debuts in 2016 – all for different teams.

His made his T20 debut for Rawalpindi, his first-class debut for Pakistan A – on tour in England – and his List A bow for Islamabad.

He is within a dozen appearances of the 200-mark in his T20 career, including 64 of those for Pakistan, whom he has represented more than 100 times across three formats.

In his T20 career, he has scored 1,695 runs with an aforementioned best of 91, whilst taking 217 wickets with a best of 5-28.

Swashbuckling, infectious and talismanic are descriptions which fit his style of play.

A big turner of the ball with, like Adil Rashid, a very potent googly, Khan will former an exciting spin trio with fellow leggie Rashid and off-spinner Dom Bess.

His presence in the Vikings squad will also be of huge value to the other young spinners at the club, notably leg-spinner Josh Sullivan.
