  • Yorkshire have signed up six players to the 2021 Academy. Here, head coach Richard Damms talks us through each player’s role, ability, aims and potential.

“Wiz, our left-arm wrist spinner, has had a good winter, including his spell in the T10 League.

“He played a bit in the first team at the end of last season, did well and will be keen to get more opportunities. That comes through consistent performances in the seconds.

“That T10 League in Abu Dhabi was great for him. It was a no-brainer for him to go and spent time outdoors around some of the world’s best rather than in the East Stand nets. And he’s come back full of confidence.

“He’s also shared his experiences with the other Academy lads, which is great.

“But he will be judged on how he performs with us rather than what he does 10,000 miles away.

“He doesn’t just want to play white ball cricket either. He’s had more exposure to that up to now, but he’s working hard at developing his red ball skills.

He’s looking for more consistency. Because of what he bowls, it’s a bit trickier to be consistent in the longer format. I’m sure he will get there.”
