Yorkshire all-rounder Jordan Thompson said:

“(Malan dismissal) It could be a significant moment. Mala’s just come back from the Test team, and there are reasons he’s back in – he’s a very good player.
“Losing him was frustrating, but we come back tomorrow and try to knock it off. We’ve still got the talent to get 170 runs and win this game.
“We know what Brez (Tim Bresnan) can do. He’s done it year in, year out for us. Ideally we’d have got him out early doors and we’d be chasing 160 or 170. But he hung around and got them to a challenging score and then took those catches late on.
“I didn’t think that five-for was ever going to come. I had a little joke with Harry Brook out there, who said, ‘You never get five-fors’. I’ve got a habit of picking threes and fours and not getting the fifth.”

6.15pm – Close WICKET Oh no, Malan caught at first slip by Bresnan – brilliant catch off Norwell. 50-3. Last ball of the day. 174 more to win.

6.02pm Yorkshire 45-2 in the 23rd. Malan and Ballance have done really well to take the sting out of things from 18-2. Ballance has 20. Three overs and a ball remaining in the day.

5.41pm Yorkshire are 34-2 in the 18th. Malan 7 and Ballance 12. 224 target. Best part of nine overs remaining in the day.

5.18pm WICKET Lyth caught at first slip by Bresnan off Miles, 14. 18-2 in the 11th. 224 target as Ballance walks out to join Malan.

5.10pm Yorkshire are 18-1 in the 10th of 26 overs to be bowled tonight. Lyth 14 and Malan 3. 224 target.

4.42pm WICKET Hill caught at first slip by Bresnan off Woakes for 1. Yorkshire 1-1 in the third.

4.34pm The Yorkshire chase of 224 is up and running. Woakes to Lyth as the sun comes out at Emerald Headingley. 26 overs remaining in the day.

4.23pm WICKET Norwell caught at mid-off, Thompson has a superb 5-52 – a season’s best. Yorkshire are chasing 224 to win. @WarwickshireCCC 176 all out

4.16pm Patterson has left the field five balls through an over, not sure what the issue is yet. Warwickshire 172-9, leading by 219.

4.09pm Bresnan gone! He’s been trapped lbw by Coad for 39. 163-9 with the first ball after tea. 210 lead with Miles and Norwell at the crease.

Tea Report Warwickshire’s lead has moved to 210 at tea on the second day at Emerald Headingley with two second-innings wickets still in hand.

They have the definite advantage in this penultimate round LV= Insurance County Championship fixture, which has reached tea on day two with the visitors on 163-8 from 58 overs, including Tim Bresnan’s unbeaten 36.

Warwickshire have moved from 40-4 from 21 at lunch, with Jordan Thompson and Matthew Fisher claiming two wickets apiece.

During the first half of the afternoon, Dom Sibley (45) and Michael Burgess (37) completed a fifth-wicket partnership of 70, playing contrasting innings.

Opener Sibley was stubborn and wicketkeeper Burgess aggressive.

But they both fell as Warwickshire slipped from 97-4 in the 37th over of the innings to 108-7 in the 41st, opening the door for Yorkshire.

Thompson had him and Chris Woakes, the latter for a duck, caught behind in the space of four balls in the 37th before Burgess drove Fisher’s first ball of a new spell to point.

Fisher later uprooted Jacob Bethell’s off stump – 130-8 in the 47th over, a Warwickshire lead of 177.

Unfortunately, busy Bresnan has played a crucial hand in taking their lead into dangerous territory, sharing an unbroken 33 for the ninth wicket with Craig Miles (17).

3.46pm – Tea Warwickshire are 163-8 after 58 overs, they lead by 210. Bresnan 36 and Miles 17. Two wickets apiece for Thompson and Fisher in the afternoon.

3.38pm Will Fraine and Tom Kohler-Cadmore have both scored centuries in the second team game against Worcestershire at Scarborough – 122 and 136. Yorkshire are 292-2.

Here, Warwickshire’s lead is now 204. Warwickshire 157-8. Bresnan has 35 and Miles 12. Two overs to go before tea.

3.27pm Warwickshire are 197 ahead with two wickets left, Bresnan 30 and Miles 10. 150-8.

2.39pm Just to clear up an earlier erroneous post….We do not have 104 overs in the day today. Just 96. That is because we came off at 5.32pm last night. If you come off for weather behind the scheduled time of close, you can’t make up any lost overs.

Warwickshire 112-7, 159 ahead with Bresnan and Bethell at the crease.

Elsewhere in Division One…..

Somerset 90 and 19-0 v Lancashire 373, Taunton
Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 155, Ageas Bowl

1.53pm Sibley (30) and Burgess (31) have shared a half-century partnership, moving Warwickshire to 77-4 – lead of 124. Yorkshire could do with breaking this partnership quickly.

1.40pm Hampshire’s Keith Barker is on for a 10-wicket innings haul against Division One leaders Notts at the Ageas Bowl. Notts, in reply to 226, are 116-7.

Warwickshire, meanwhile, have advanced to 65-4. They lead by 112. Sibley 27 and Burgess 22.

1.19pm Warwickshire 42-4 after 24 overs, leading by 89, in the early stages of the afternoon. Sibley has 20 and Burgess 6.

Lunch Report Yorkshire and Warwickshire are locked in a titanic tussle as wickets continue to fall on day two at Emerald Headingley.

Yorkshire, bowled out for 108 in their first-innings reply to the Bears’ 155, have hit back with four wickets before lunch to keep themselves firmly in the hunt for victory under a grey sky and floodlights.

This penultimate round LV= Insurance County Championship fixture is one which both sides need to win to maintain their hopes of clinching the Division One title.

Warwickshire are 40-4 from 21 overs, leading by 87 with Dom Sibley unbeaten on 18 and Michael Burgess six.

The White Rose started the day on 95-8 in their first innings and lost Steve Patterson bowled by Liam Norwell (4-27) and Gary Ballance bowled for 58 by Craig Miles.

The latter came as he tried to heave to leg in the search for quick runs with only Ben Coad left for company.

After Yorkshire’s innings was wrapped up in the first 17 minutes of play, Warwickshire reached 23-0 in the 12th over of their second innings – a lead of 70.

But captain Patterson bowled his opposite number Will Rhodes for 12 to open the door.

Then, in the 15th, Jordan Thompson struck twice in two balls as the score fell to 26-3.

Chris Benjamin drove loosely to second slip (Adam Lyth) before Sam Hain was caught behind for his second golden duck of the match – a king pair!

Matt Lamb also followed for a duck, bowled by Patterson off his pad – 27-4 in the 18th over with a Warwickshire lead of 76.

Sibley and Burgess then survived through to lunch, with the game set up superbly.

12.32pm – Lunch Warwickshire are 40-4 from 21 overs, leading by 87 with Sibley 18 and Burgess 6. Six wickets in the session after Yorkshire first innings concluded on 95 in reply to 155.

12.12pm WICKET Wow! Lamb bowled by Patterson off his pad, 0. Warwickshire 27-4. Their lead is 74.

11.57am WICKET Thompson strikes, getting Benjamin caught at second slip by Lyth for 3. Warwickshire are 26-2.

And again. Hain caught behind for a golden duck. 26-3.

11.45am WICKET Rhodes bowled by Patterson, 12. 23-1 in the 12th. 70 lead for Warwickshire.

11.20am Yorkshire have made a tidy start to Warwickshire’s second innings, though no wickets as yet. The Bears are 5-0 in the seventh over, bowled by Coad. They lead by 52.

Elsewhere in Division One, there’s been plenty happening.

Somerset 11-1 v Lancashire 373, Taunton
Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 48-5, Ageas Bowl.

10.48am WICKET Ballance bowled for 58 aiming over the leg-side at Miles. 108 all out. Yorkshire trail by 47.

10.44am WICKET Ah. Patterson bowled – off-stump out of the ground – by Norwell. 108-9 after 42 overs.

10.32am Early promise for Yorkshire….

Patterson carves first ball of the day, from Miles, for four. Then a Ballance single at the start of the next over, from Norwell. 100-8.

9.50am With 12.2 overs lost yesterday, we will have 104 to bowl today.

Good morning from Emerald Headingley.

It is a dry and overcast start to day two of our penultimate round Championship match, which begins with Yorkshire on 95-8 in reply to 155.

Today has the feeling of a pivotal day in a fixture which both sides realistically need to win to keep alive their hopes of winning the title.

Warwickshire fought back impressively in bowler-friendly conditions yesterday.

But with Gary Ballance at the crease on 51, there is no reason why Yorkshire can’t put a significant dent in the 60-run deficit during the opening hour of the day. He will have Steve Patterson for company, the skipper who yesterday took his 450th first-class wicket as part of a four-for alongside Ben Coad.

There has been the suggestion that there may be a touch of rain around this morning, so it may be that comes to delay a 10.30am start. Fingers crossed it stays away.

There will be a live stream available once again. Enjoy the day.
