Second XI Reports: Derbyshire & Leicestershire T20s

— 9 June 2021

Derbyshire vs Yorkshire

Having won three of the four T20 games so far, Yorkshire went to the East Midlands full of hope, but unfortunately returned having being beaten comprehensively in both games.
Being the week that Vitality Blast starts, counties around the country took the opportunity to include first team regulars.

Derbyshire had a strong batting line up and despite dismissing Billy Godleman and Wayne Madsen cheaply, a partnership of 46 in 23 balls between Luis Reece and Leus Du Plooy set the platform that enabled Yorkshire’s opponents to post 190-9.

Reece made 51 from 27 balls and Critchley 45 from 36, with a cameo of 26 in 15 balls from keeper Brooke Guest. Matthew Fisher emerged with 4-36 from his four.

In reply, Yorkshire lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 109, James Wharton top scoring with 28 from 23 balls.

Leicestershire vs Yorkshire

On another glorious day, the White Rose asked Leicestershire to bat first and their newly arrived overseas player Josh Inglis took full advantage, making 93 from 56 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. Wickets fell at the other end but they were able to close on 156-9. Matt Pillans taking 3-29 and Fisher 2-31.

George Hill top scored with 21 and was one of only three to reach double figures as Yorkshire were all out for 80.

The next match comes against Lancashire at Aigburth on Thursday 10 June.
