Report: Day 3 of Yorkshire vs Glamorgan

— 10 April 2021

Scorecard

Ninety minutes of snow from 12.55pm meant there was no further play on day three of Yorkshire’s opening round LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Glamorgan at Emerald Headingley.

The ground’s wintery scene made it obvious pretty quickly that afternoon or evening play would not be possible, and umpires Paul Baldwin and Russell Warren abandoned the day at 3.30pm.

The weather intervention suited Yorkshire more after a hugely frustrating morning session.

The day started with news of muscle injuries to new ball pair Ben Coad (pectoral) and Matthew Fisher (abdominal), and they will not bowl again in the game ahead of further assessment early next week before back-to-back Group Three away games at Kent and then Sussex.

Glamorgan then batted through the morning session unbroken, advancing their second innings from 68-4 in 29 overs overnight to 161-4 in 61.

Unbeaten fifth-wicket pair Billy Root and captain Chris Cooke took advantage of a depleted White Rose attack to advance the Welsh lead to 298.

Both batsmen posted fifties during the second half of the session, and Root will begin day four on 77 and Cooke on 57.

They batted in determined fashion, though left-handed Root swept the off-spin of Dom Bess for six shortly after passing 50.

Whereas Glamorgan would have been hoping to set Yorkshire a victory target in the region of 450 given a full day’s play, they now may have to settle for quick runs in the morning and something around 350.
