2nd XI report: Yorkshire vs Surrey (Day Three)

— 2 September 2019

Yorkshire declared overnight on 39-1 with Surrey making 21-0 from 3.5 overs before declaring. This gave Yorkshire a target of 309 from a minimum of 90 overs.

James Wharton departed for two, caught at third slip from the bowling of Stuart Meaker but at lunch had reached 79 without further loss – Matthew Revis 27no and Tom Loten 42no.

The post luncheon session didn’t start well as both batters were dismissed without addition to the score and this soon became 92-4 as Finlay Bean was caught at first slip. Matthew Waite and George Hill added 37 in 72 balls before the latter was caught at backward point for 22. Ben Birkhead made 13 from 29 but was dismissed hit wicket and it was left to the two Matthews, Waite and Fisher to guide the White Rose to tea at 186-6 needing 123 further runs for victory.

However the next eight overs, after tea, saw us lose our last 4 wickets to give Surrey victory by 92 runs.

The next 2nd XI action is against Sussex at Hove commencing 10th September before the season closes at Scarborough against Durham with a three-day Friendly starting 16th September.
