JORDAN'S GIBSON CUP TRIUMPH

— 16 August 2019

Yorkshire’s up-and-coming all-rounder, Jordan Thompson, has provided proof that cricket is not the only sport at which he excels.

The 22-year-old Leeds-born player demonstrated his prowess at golf on Monday, August 12, when he walked off with the prestigious Gibson Cup which is competed for annually by Yorkshire CCC cricketers past and present.

Played in fine weather at Leeds Golf Centre, seven former players took part along with five of the current squad and three guests.

Jordan’s 34 points were enough to win the tournament but the young players did not have everything their own way, Yorkshire CCC Players’ Association chairman, Neil Hartley, emerging as runner-up with 33 points.

The Association have two further golf events planned for soon after the end of the cricket season, the Phil Carrick memorial golf day being scheduled for October 2 at Pannal and the Tony Nicholson Trophy at Ripon on October 9.
