Second XI T20
Desborough Town CC
Yorkshire won by five wickets
Northamptonshire won by four wickets.
Spoils were shared as Yorkshire won the first game by five wickets and Northants the second by four wickets.
Bowling first Matthew Waite struck in the second over having skipper, Newton lbw for 4. Jack Leaning took two wickets in his first two overs followed by Jared Warner dismissing Ben Curran for 35 and our hosts were 56-4 in the ninth over.
Wickets fell regularly but Luke Procter remained unbeaten making 62 from 40 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes as they posted 148-9. There were two wickets each for Jack Leaning and Matthew Waite.
Will Fraine was dismissed and Ben Birkhead made 19 from 14 balls before he was the first of two run outs. Matthew Revis shared a partnership of 56 with Jack Leaning but he too was run out for 21 from 31 balls. Jack was joined by Tim Bresnan and they added a further 49 in 28 balls before Jack was bowled by Procter for 51 from 42 balls with 5 fours and a six.
Tm Bresnan was 26 not out at the end as Bilal Anjam hit 10 not out from 3 balls to see us home.
The second game saw us bat first but we never really recovered from 26-4. Ben Birkhead 12, Matthew Waite 12 and Tom Loten 15 not out all had starts but it was due to Tim Bresnan that we were able to post a total of 128-5 – he made 78 not out from 56 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes meaning he has not yet been dismissed in his six innings so far in this competition.
Tim followed his 78 no by bowling his four overs straight off taking two for 15. We did take six wickets but Northants were always in control due to Bramley making 60 from 51 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He was helped by Newton who made 25 from 15 as they reached their target with 11 balls to spare.
The weather forecast isn’t great but a three-day Championship game is due to start Tuesday 30th July at the same venue.
