Second XI Championship – Three-day game

Liverpool CC

Lancashire won the toss and opted to bat first

On a warm but overcast day our hosts won the toss and elected to bat first – a decision that looked to have been justified when they reached 71 before losing their first wicket – Brooke Guest caught low at second slip by Jared Warner off Jordan Thompson – this was followed an over later by Shah being caught at mid on by Jack Leaning from Josh Poysden’s bowling. Lunch arrived without further loss and the score advanced to 92.

Throughout the morning session there had much “playing and missing” and this continued in the post lunch session. Tim Bresnan had James Faulkner caught at second slip by Jordan Thompson, again followed shortly by Jordans second catch, this time at third slip off Ed Barnes to see Fluck dismissed. The score was 117-4 and there followed a partnership of 79 between Baldersone and Lamb that ended shortly before tea when the latter was caught behind off Jack Leaning – Lamb had made 71 from 141 balls, his 50 being reached from 115 balls with 5 fours.

From 196-4, Lancashire lost their last six wickets for the addition of only 10 runs in 46 balls, finishing 206 all out and Jack Leaning had 4-8 from 5.4 overs.

We didn’t find it easy when beginning our reply and lost Bilal Anjam for two and James Wharton for six but George Hill four not out and Jack Leaning 22 not out saw us safely through to the close at 39-2, trailing by 167.
