Report: Castleford vs Yorkshire Academy

On Saturday struggling Castleford won the toss and put Yorkshire Academy into bat.

After losing an early wicket David Wainwright and Eitan Litvin put on a partnership of 102 from 134 balls for the second wicket before Wainwright was dismissed for 55 from 74 balls with 6 fours. The spinners started to turn the screw and tied the batsmen down which led to the fall of wickets. Litvin top scored with 56 from 100 balls with 5 fours before becoming the fourth wicket to fall at 140. The home side finished on 193 for 7 in their 50 overs which was a much lower total than they had anticipated halfway through the innings at 118 for 1 when drinks were taken after 25 overs.

Wickets were shared between Harrison Quarmby 2 for 34, Josh Sullivan 2 for 54, Harry Sullivan an excellent spell of 13 overs 2 for 19 with 3 maidens and Harry Harding 1 for 42.

In the reply the Academy got off to a bad start losing both openers before a run had been scored. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and the visitors were soon struggling at 51 for 6. A partnership of 30 for the seventh wicket between Dominic Leech and Archie Greaves took the total to 81 before the three last wickets fell quickly with Yorkshire Academy final total on 93 all out in 40.1 overs. Greaves top scored with 24 and Harry Duke also contributed 22.

The damage was done by Eddie Morrison 4 for 30 from 13 overs, Jack Young 2 for 17 and Umair Khan 2 for 0.

It was a disappointing performance by Yorkshire Academy whom with the defeat have slipped to fifth place in the table.

Next Saturday the Academy host the 2018 champions York.
