2nd XI report: Yorkshire v Durham (Day Two)

— 19 September 2018

Scorecard

The morning session yielded 174 runs for the loss of five wickets. Jack Leaning took his overnight 108 to 126 before he was lbw to Doneathy. Leaning’s wicket fell shortly after Josh Shaw had posted an 89-ball half century, including eight fours.

Ed Barnes joined Shaw and he struck 38 from 25 balls with five fours and a six adding 64 for the sixth wicket in only 47 balls before he was bowled. Josh Poysden departed for one caught on the edge, however, Shaw reached his hundred from 144 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. With the score at 492-7, Yorkshire declared.

Durham had 40 minutes with the bat before lunch and the visitors reached that at 50-2, a wicket each for Shaw and Matt Pillans. Play resumed after lunch but the wind speed had increased further. Two overs later, with fielders and batters unable to stand up straight and bowlers being blown sideways, play was suspended.

Several inspections took place including removing the covers for safety reasons (they were being lifted in to the air by the wind) and it was intended for play to resume at 5pm. However, the sightscreen at the Peasholm Park End were blown over and play was called off for the day at 4.55pm.
