— 26 July 2018

Resuming at 36 for 1, Gay and Claydon remained unbeaten at lunch taking the score to 175 for 1. Gay was 50 not out from 120 balls and Claydon 85 not out from 139 – they had added 145 for the second wicket in 229 balls.

Brierley made 22 and Zaib 57 from 77 balls but 10 minutes before the scheduled tea interval Northants declared at 296-3, trailing by 94.

Josh Shaw took 2 for 23 from 13 overs and there was a wicket each for Karl Carver, Jordan Thompson, James Logan and Jack Leaning.

Kohler-Cadmore had returned to Headingley and was replaced at the top of the order by Bilal Anjam – he and Alex Lees added 72 before Lees was caught at long on for a “run a ball” 55 including 11 fours. Bilal was joined by Tom Loten and they remained unbeaten at the close of play: Tom 23 no and Bilal 52 not out from 102 balls – the score being 137-1.
