Game 2 Scorecard

Game 1

Winning the toss Yorkshire asked Durham to bat first.

James Wainman struck in the second over to remove Billy Godleman and again in the fourth over to leave Derbyshire 21-2.

Anuj Dal and Matt Critchley advanced their score to 78 from a further 25 balls before Critchley was caught by Wainman for 36 from the bowling of Jordan Thompson – his 36 came from 27 balls and included two fours and two sixes.

Dal made 66 from only 30 balls (7×4;4×6) adding 70 from 39 balls with Callum Brodrick who, himself, made 33 from 25 before being fifth out with the score at 160 with 4.3 overs remaining. From those deliveries they added 28, totalling 188-7. There were two wickets each for Josh Shaw, Wainman and Karl Carver.

Yorkshire lost Harry Brook for two in the second over and following a stoppage to clarify a player involvement issue, Jack Leaning joined Alex Lees.

They added 82 in 59 balls before Lees was caught at short fine leg for 60 from 40 balls with seven fours.

Leaning completed his 50 from 43 balls but contributions were not forthcoming from others and we finished 146-6 to lose by 42 runs.

During their innings Derbyshire hit 10 maximums whereas Yorkshire failed to clear the rope although we bowled 14 more “dot” balls.

Game 2

Derbyshire again batted first and by the end of the first over Josh Shaw found himself on a hat-trick, having bowled Alex Hughes and Brodrick. The hat-trick was avoided but soon after George Hill removed Tom Wood for 15.

Godleman continued to score freely until caught by Wainman from Harry Brook’s second delivery for 71 from 51 balls with eight fours and two sixes. Dan Wheeldon added some lusty blows to make 39 from 22 balls including five sixes and they closed on 177-5.

Yorkshire’s reply, again, started poorly with Tom Kohler-Cadmore out for five in the first over. Jordan Thompson then made 26 from 12 balls (4×4;1×6) before being caught in the deep. Jack Leaning 17 from 13 and Matthew Waite, unbeaten, with 22 from 21 helped reach our target but the main contributor was Brook who reached his maiden 2nd X1 T20 hundred with a six to finish unbeaten on 101 from 54 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes.

Yorkshire reached the target to win by seven wickets with 17 balls to spare – the 2nd XI’s first T20 win of the season.

The 2nd XI’s next action is again T20, on Wednesday 18.7.18 against Nottinghamshire at Worksop College.

John Virr – 2nd X1 Scorer
