REPORT: DERBYSHIRE 2ND XI VS YORKSHIRE 2ND XI - (SEC)

— 12 July 2018

Scorecard

Day three opened with the news that Ben Birkhead would be unable to resume his innings due to the blow he took on his right arm the night before.

Yorkshire resumed with two youngsters, Tom Loten and George Hill at the wicket and they safely negotiated the first hour taking us from an overnight 66-3 to 123-3 meaning that they had added 57 for the fourth wicket in 118 balls.

However “drinks brought a wicket” and two balls later Loten was bowled for 32 from 71 balls with two fours and Hill departed three overs later, caught behind for 34 from 63 balls with four fours. Josh Shaw joined Jordan Thompson but survived only 26 balls before he was taken at mid on for 15 (2×4).

Thompson and James Wainman took us safely to lunch at 166-6. Yorkshire had added 100 in the morning session, a lead of 169. Post lunch the lead was built steadily and we declared without further loss on 246-6 setting Derbyshire 316 to win in a minimum of 42 overs.

A positive result for either side looked unlikely and this proved to be correct as the game was drawn with Derbyshire finishing on 97-1: Karl Carver the only wicket taker, dismissing Harvey Hosein for 26 courtesy of a further fine catch at slip by Thompson.

Thursday sees us in T20 action at Barnsley against the same opposition – the first game scheduled to start at 11.30 am.
