— 14 June 2018

Scorecard

9.15pm Fisher bowls Wagner and Essex are 234 all out after 49.1. 25-run win. See you at Hampshire on Monday in the semi-finals (11am).

8.30pm Matt Coles has been bowled by Matthew Fisher. 159-8 in the 39th.

8.15pm Yorkshire are closing in on a semi-final place. Carver forces Simon Harmer to drag on. 138-7

8.04pm Essex are 123-6 in the 33rd over as Patterson bowls Ashar Zaidi around his legs.

7.54pm Essex are 114-5 after 30 overs, needing 145 from 20 with Wheater 23 and Zaidi 11.

7.17pm Wicket!! Patterson gets Lawrence lbw playing around his front pad for 15. Essex are 74-4 in the 21st over.

7.14pm We’re through 20 overs and Essex are 73-3. Lawrence 15 and Bopara 3.

7.02pm Essex have moved to 55-2 after 17 overs, with Chopra 33 and Lawrence 4. Make that 59-2 after 17.1 and 59-3 after 17.2!! Carver gets Chopra caught at deep square sweeping.

6.31pm A collector’s item. An Alastair Cook heave. And it’s brought about a wicket as @BenCoad10 gets him caught at mid-off off a top-edge. 26-1 after eight.

6pm We’re up and running. Essex 1-0 after one ball chasing 260.

Mid-innings

Gary Ballance top-scored with 91 as Yorkshire posted 269-7 in today’s Royal London one-day Cup semi-final eliminator against Essex at Chelmsford.

There is a bit of uneven bounce in a pitch which is largely good for batting – if a little slow, so the Vikings have it all to do.

But they had slipped to 45-4 following Steve Patterson’s decision to bat first upon winning the toss, with Tim Bresnan and Matthew Fisher also contributing to a superb recovery with 41 and 35 not out.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore fell for a golden duck two balls into the match, while Jonny Tattersall later failed to score as well.

Adam Lyth and Harry Brook fell cheaply before Ballance and Jack Leaning, who made 57, recovered the innings with a fifth-wicket partnership of 129.

Unfortunately, Ballance, who hit two sixes in a Ravi Bopara over, was caught behind trying to cut Neil Wagner as the score fell to 174-5 in the 39th over.

Leaning was lbw to Simon Harmer’s off-spin shortly afterwards before Bresnan and Fisher shared 71 in the last 8.1 overs of the innings.

Jamie Porter finished with 3-25 from nine overs for Essex.

5.11pm Excellent last half hour for Yorkshire through Tim Bresnan and Matthew Fisher. They have taken the score to 243-6 in the 49th.

4.44pm A couple of big blows to Yorkshire’s hopes of 270 plus as Jack Leaning is lbw to Simon Harmer for 57, following Ballance back to the hutch. 189-6 after 42.

4.33pm Ballance has gone, caught behind off Wagner for 91 trying to make room and cut. 175-5

4.26pm Ballance has just hit two sixes, the first two of the innings, off Bopara – one scooped and the other mid-wicket. 171-4 after 38 and he has 91.

3.21pm Yorkshire will be hoping for anything around 250 here to give themselves a chance. The pitch looks good for batting, largely. We saw that one from Porter to get Tattersall shoot, but nothing else to worry batsmen. Ballance has 41 and Leaning 20. 88-4 after 21.

3.04pm Yorkshire 68-4 in the 16th over. Ballance 25 and Leaning 16.

2.45pm Lyth has gone. He’s been caught at third-man by Zaidi trying to uppercut Porter for 21. Yorkshire now 45-3 in the 11th.

2.38pm Early signs are positive for Ballance and Lyth, who have 13 and 21 respectively. They have taken the score to 39-2 in the 10th. But plenty still to do.

2.09pm Two wickets in as many overs as Harry Brooks play on to Matt Coles for two. Yorkshire are 5-2, now 6-2 in the second over. Gary Ballance joins Adam Lyth at the crease.

2.03pm Not the start Yorkshire were after as Tom Kohler-Cadmore is lbw first ball to Jamie Porter. The Vikings are 1-1 after two balls. Harry Brook in now.

1.56pm In the other eliminator match, Notts are 207-7 after 46 overs against Kent at Trent Bridge. They were 93-5 and Steven Mullaney has just been removed for 90.

TOSS Yorkshire win toss and elect to bat.

Essex: Cook, Chopra, Westley c, Lawrence, Bopara, Wheater w, Zaidi, Coles, Harmer, Porter, Wagner.

Yorkshire: Kohler-Cadmore, Lyth, Ballance, Leaning, Brook, Bresnan, Tattersall w, Fisher, Patterson c, Carver, Coad.

More celebrations like this today, please

Good afternoon from Chelmsford, where it is overcast and pretty chilly. But, importantly, it’s dry and we’re all set for a 2pm start in today’s eliminator clash.

Yorkshire finished third in the North and Essex second in the South.

The Vikings come into this match on the back of four successive group wins. They are without all of their internationals, however. Essex are also without their suspended captain Ryan ten Doeschate, but they are able to call upon England Test opener Alastair Cook.

For those unable to attend Chelmsford, it is on Sky.
