2nd XI Report: Yorkshire v MCC Young Cricketers (SEC)

— 7 June 2018

Scorecard

Day two commenced with Yorkshire trailing by 34 runs with 5 wickets remaining. Loten and Shaw took that deficit down to 18 before Tom Loten became our second batter to be dismissed for 49 – caught behind.

James Wainman joined Shaw and they took us in to the lead before the latter was caught for 25 from 78 balls with 2 fours. The “tail” wagged a little as we were all out for 230, a lead of 39 and 7 overs were bowled prior to lunch – MCC YC going into lunch at 15-1, Barrett becoming Ben Coads ninth victim of the match caught by Alex Lees.

Shortly after lunch Callis was comprehensively bowled by James Wainman with the scores level, however Curran and Imtiaz added 97 in 132 balls before Curran fell victim to Coad being caught behind for 74 from 117 balls with 12 fours and a six. At this stage they were 136-3, a lead of 97. This was stretched to 127 without further loss when tea was taken at 166-3.

Imtiaz had reached 50 from 70 balls with 10 fours and he and Lezar took the score to 191 before their fourth wicket was lost, the latter being caught behind from Jordan Thompson’s impressive spell. Imtiaz completed his century from 144 balls with 21 fours shortly before he lost his latest partner, Hudson-Prentice with the score at 255.

Imtiaz was finally dismissed for 121 “shouldering arms” to Karl Carver, this started a strong finish for us with MCC YC closing on 273-8, a lead of 234.

An interesting final day lies ahead.
