Report: Sessay v Yorkshire Academy

— 11 June 2018

The Yorkshire Academy visited the picturesque village of Sessay on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and invited the Academy to bat.

Both openers were soon back in the pavilion as the visitors were struggling at 29 for 2 in the eighth over. A third wicket partnership of 42 between Bilal Anjam and Tom Loten led a recovery and took the score to 71 before two wickets fell in the same over. Captain Ben Birkhead joined Anjam and they put on 47 before Anjam was dismissed for 54 from 89 balls with 8 fours. Birkhead was the next wicket to fall at 155 after a contribution of 44 from 58 balls with 3 balls. The next two wickets fell quickly to leave Yorkshire Academy at 164 for 8. Matthew Taylor and Harry Sullivan put together a ninth wicket partnership of 54 to take the total past 200 when Taylor was out for 57 from 54 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. The final wicket fell off the penultimate ball of the innings with the Academy total of 219 all out, which included 30 extras.

Wickets were taken by Stuart Pierse 1 for 35, Tim Hall 1 for 22, Liam Carver 2 for 41, Navin Kavikara 3 for 39 and Matthew Till 1 for 50.

Sessay lost their first wicket at 14 and two further wickets fell in successive balls with the total of 53. Despite a fourth wicket stand of 44 which took them to 97 for 4 in the 31st over, the home side were struggling to keep up with the required run rate from tight and accurate Academy bowling. When they tried to step up the rate they lost quick wickets and were soon 110 for 6 when Navin Kavikara was out for 36. Tim Hall and Liam Carver put on 51 for the seventh wicket before Hall was out for 31 with the total on 161 in the 45th over. The Sessay innings finished on 191 for 7 after 50 overs.

Wickets were shared between Matthew Taylor 1 for 27, James Mukherjee 1 for 23, Tom Loten 2 for 23, Harry Brook 1 for 21, Sam Wisniewski 1 for 23 and Harry Sullivan 1 for 30.
Sessay 2 and Yorkshire Academy 8 points.
