Yorkshire Academy v Driffield Town (Yorkshire League North)


Rain prevented a prompt start at Weetwood and play started at 3.30pm with the match reduced to 34 overs a side.

The Visitors won the toss and inserted Yorkshire Academy.
The Academy lost the wicket of Harry Brook in the fifth over with the total on 35. An excellent partnership of 124 from 135 balls between Matthew Revis and Billy Whitford for the second wicket before Revis was dismissed for 82 from 90 balls with 8 fours.

Tom Loten joined Whitford and they put on 47 when Loten was out with the total on 206 in the 33rd over. Whitford was on 77 not out from 85 balls with 6 fours when the Academy innings closed with the total on 221 for 3 from the reduced 34 overs.

Jamie Hopper 1 for 38 and Ollie Ezard 1 for 44 were the only wicket takers for the visitors.

Driffield lost both openers quickly to leave them struggling at 31 for 2 in the 11th over. Captain Danny Broumpton joined overseas, Kavindu Kulasekara and they lead a recovery with a third wicket partnership of 67 from 77 balls before Broumpton was dismissed for 39 from 46 balls with 5 fours and a six. The visitors continued to lose regular wickets and at the end of 34 overs finished their innings on 155 for 7 with Kulasekara 68 not out from 79 balls with 6 fours and a six.

The wickets were taken by George Hill 1 for 14, Harry Brook 1 for 17, Harry Sullivan 2 for 44, Josh Sullivan 2 for 52 and Vikram Sharma 1 for 6.

The improving Academy picked up 8 points from this win and are moving up the league table.

Driffield Town v Yorkshire Academy (Cup)


After playing Driffield in the league on Saturday, Yorkshire Academy visited Kings Mill Road in the second round of the Yorkshire Leagues Cup, a competition for sides in the Yorkshire League North and South.

Yorkshire Academy won the toss and elected to bat.

The openers got off to a flying start with a partnership of 69 from only 55 balls before Harry Brook was dismissed for 56 from only 36 balls with 9 fours and a six. The second wicket fell in the same over with the third shortly after. A stand of 42 for the fourth wicket between Tom Loten and George Hill before Loten was out for 22. Hill was the next to be dismissed for 28 with the total on 144 for 5. Another two wickets fell quickly and it looked as if the Academy may not bat the 40 overs out. Captain Ben Birkhead and Vikram Sharma put together a partnership of 41 before Sharma was out for 24. Birkhead was the ninth wicket for 35 at 207 and the last man was out in the final over with the total on 214.

The wicket takers were Jamie Hopper 2 for 45, Jamie Greavson 1 for 41, Kavindu Kulasekara 3 for 27 and Nick Hardgrave 4 for 30.

The home side were soon struggling at 29 for 3 in the tenth over. A recovery took place which took them to 91 before the fifth wicket fell. The hosts looked as if they may be getting back with a partnership of 74 from 72 balls for the sixth wicket between opener Grant Halder and Nick Hardgrave before Halder was dismissed for 55 from 92 balls with 5 fours with the total on 165 for 6. Hardgrave followed shortly afterwards for 48 from 44 balls with two fours and 4 sixes to leave Driffield at 168 for 7. The final three wickets fell quickly and the home side were 181 all out from 37.4 overs.

The wickets were shared between Matthew Taylor with excellent figures of 7 overs 5 for 23, George Hill 1 for 26, Harry Sullivan 1 for 31, Harry Brook 2 for 16 and Josh Sullivan 1 for 65.
