Report: Acomb v Yorkshire Academy

On a warm and sunny day the Academy visited Acomb on Saturday.

The Visitors won the toss for the third time this season and elected to bat.

The Academy were struggling at 30 for 2 before James Wharton and Tom Loten put on a third wicket partnership of 64 from 92 balls. Wharton being dismissed for 41. Billy Whitford joined Loten and they had a stand of 53 for the fourth wicket before Whitford was out for 26 with the total on 147 for 4 in the 38th over. Despite wickets falling around him Loten continued his excellent form with 72 from 107 balls with 2 fours and a six. It was his third score over 50 for the Academy in 4 innings. The Academy finished on a respectable 205 for 8 in the 50 overs.

The wickets were shared between Gavin Paton 2 for 22, Darcy O’Connor 2 for 60 and Mark Bell 3 for 34.

The home batsmen were struggling and lost their first two wickets in successive overs to leave them at 24 for 2 in the 11th over. Captain Joe Dale and Jonny Rawsthorne both contributed 20 to top score in the innings. The home side collapsed from 79 for 4 to 107 all out against accurate and tight bowling.

Wickets were shared between Eddle Barnes 2 for 17, Matthew Taylor 2 for 18, Vikram Sharma 1 for 15, Harry Sullivan 4 for 24 from 10 overs with 1 maiden, Joshua Sullivan 1 for 20.

It was a second successive outright victory for the Academy by 98 runs. They face Sheriff Hutton Bridge at home next Saturday.
