2nd XI Report: Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire (50-over fixture)

— 27 April 2018

Scorecard

On a typical blustery April day our visitors won the toss and decided to bat first.

James Wainman struck in his second over having Carter caught at mid on for seven (21-1). Wainman then turned “catcher” taking a tremendous low catch at long on to remove Budinger from the bowling of Ed Barnes – he made 45 from 36 balls with 6 fours and a six; score 72-2 in the 12th over.

Gibson and Root added 82 for the third wicket before the latter was bowled by Warner, but not before he had made 56 from 74 balls. Gibson departed five balls later, bowled by Shutt, for 39 from 44 balls; score 159-4. This became 168-5 when Marshall was caught at first slip from James Logan’s first ball.

A partnership of 36 for the sixth wicket took the score to 204 and this became 223-7 with seven overs remaining. The last three wickets fell for just 12 runs in 19 balls as Notts posted 235 with almost four overs of their allocation remaining. James Wainman finished with 4 for 31.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Bilal Anjam opened Yorkshire’s reply and it was the former who departed first (8 from 14); 27-1 in the sixth over. Jordan Thompson joined Anjam and they added 102 for the second wicket in 141 balls.

Anjam reached his 50 from 83 balls (5 x fours) and Thompson his from 62 balls (4 x fours; 1 six). Anjam was bowled for 58. Tattersall joined Thompson and at 172-2 with almost 12 overs remaining Yorkshire were in a strong position. However our last 8 wickets fell for 41 runs as we lost by 22 runs.

Thompson made 74 from 99 balls. Billy Root took 5 for 47.

Weather permitting our Trophy campaign begins at Stamford Bridge on Friday 4th May when we play Leicestershire.
