2nd XI Report: Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire (Day One)

The game began at Scarborough CC with the sun shining, but a cool breeze. The toss was won by the visitors and they decided to bat first.

Matthew Waite had Budinger caught at first slip for 12 with the score at 23. 61 runs were added for the second wicket before Ed Barnes dismissed Billy Root for 30 from 44 balls including 6 fours – he was the first of three catches for Jonny Tattersall. There was one more dismissal before lunch, Karl Carver bowling James for four. Lunch was taken with Notts 104-3, opener Gibson unbeaten on 51 from 123 balls with 6 fours.

Jared Warner struck in the first over after lunch, Gibson departing without adding to his score. Keeper, Keast joined Perera and they added 107 for the fifth wicket in 199 balls before Keast was caught at mid on in the first over bowled by Bilal Anjam – Keast made 59 from 99 balls with 8 fours and a six.

The score at this point was 212-5. In the space of 32 balls Notts slipped to 232 all out. Matthew Taylor finished with 2-20 but Anjam returned best figures of 4-12 from four overs – he actually took a wicket in each of his four overs.

Our reply had reached 10 from 7.3 overs when Tattersall was caught behind, down the leg side, for three from 16 balls. Skipper, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, made 27 from 49 balls, including 5 fours before he was also caught at the wicket (39-2).

Matthew Waite joined Bilal Anjam and when bad light caused an early finish at 5.56pm.The close of play score was 42-2 from 14 overs.
