Despite the heavy rain of recent days all parties were keen to play and a start on time was made with Durham batting after winning the toss.
James Wainman and Matthew Waite opened the bowling and it was the latter who made the initial breakthrough having Steel caught at 3rd slip by Jordan Thompson for 15 (23-1).
Harte joined Trevaskis and they added 31 in 94 balls before Trevaskis was caught at cover by Thompson from the bowling of Azeem Rafiq – he made 26 from 69 balls with 3 fours and a six. Azeem also bowled Jack Burnham for 8 and at lunch Durham were 73-3.
FIve overs after lunch Harte was bowled by Wainman for 37 from 75 with 6 fours – 109-4 became 128-5 was taken 1 handed at slip by Jared Warner from Karl Carvers bowling. However Coughlin and Poynter had a partnership that spanned 151 balls and together they added 148 as Coughlin was caught at 1st slip by Harry Brook from the bowling of Matthew Taylor.
Coughlin made 61 from 87 balls with 8 fours and a six. During this partnership Poynter reached his 50 from 60 balls with 8 fours and reached his 100 from 106 balls with 14 fours.
The only other wicket to fall was that of Eitan Litvin for 16 as Durham declared on 364-7 leaving Yorkshire 10 overs to bat. Poynter remained unbeaten on 159 from only 148 balls with 21 fours and a six.
In the 10 overs we reached 48-1, Harry Brook being caught down the leg side for 9. Jonny Tattersall and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were unbeaten at the close on 8 and 6 respectively, there being 25 extras including 18 no balls.
