Overnight rain delayed the start until 11.30 am – no overs were lost and intervals were all put back by 30 mins. Derbyshire won the toss and asked Yorkshire to have first use.
Jonny Tattersall and Tom Kohler-Cadmore opened the innings and added 109 for the 1st wicket in 159 balls before the former was caught at slip for 36 from 95 balls with 5 fours. Kohler-Cadmore departed 4 overs later for 65 from 76 balls with 13 fours and at lunch we had reached 133-2 from 31 overs.
In the afternoon session 34 overs were bowled for the addition of 93 runs and the loss of 3 further wickets. Jack Leaning 27 from 82 balls, Tim Bresnan 7 from 21 balls and Will Rhodes 4 from 9 were the batters dismissed, however Alex Lees remained undefeated at tea having made 63 from 109 balls with 13 fours and we were 226-5.
Andrew Hodd had joined Alex Lees shortly before tea but soon after, having made 18 from 22 he retired, injured and was replaced by Liam Plunkett. It was around this time that the light “closed in” and at 6.02 pm the players left the field and 5 minutes later play was abandoned for the day and Yorkshire closed on 289-5 from 82 overs – Plunkett 21 no from 37 (2 fours and a six) and Alex Lees 86 no from 156 (15 fours).
