Leading by 77 overnight Yorkshire needed early wickets if we were to push for a victory but it was 40 minutes before the first blow was struck, Karl Carver having Harding caught at backward point. Then, in a fine burst of fast bowling, Jared Warner had Steel taken at slip and Phillipe at mid-off to reduce Durham to 60-3. James Logan joined the attack prior to lunch and had Bell caught behind square.
These were our only successes up to lunch – during the morning sessions we bowled 34 overs (205 deliveries including a no ball) and only 16 scoring shots were made – Durham 96-4 and still trailing by 19.
The afternoon session saw Coughlin and skipper, Harte remain together as they added a further 126 in 31 overs. Harte reached 50 in 113 balls with 8 fours and at tea was 78 not out with his partner unbeaten on 61 from 112 balls – Durham 222-4 leading by 107.
Having made 160 not out in the first knock it looked as though Harte would achieve another not out but he was caught behind, down the leg side for 96 from 187 balls with 14 fours with Durham leading by 132. He and Coughlin had added 159 in 268 balls.
This was the last action of the day, as at 4.50pm with Durham 256-5, leading by 141, the players shook hands and the match ended in a draw.
