Durham made good use of winning the toss, scoring at almost 4.5 runs per over during the morning session to reach lunch at 152-2 from 34 overs. Openers Steel and Greenwell were the wickets to fall for 31 and 21 respectively – both victims for Jared Warner. At lunch captain, Gareth Harte was unbeaten on 50 from 70 balls (9 fours) and Phillipe 35 no from 53 with 5 fours. Their partnership, at this stage is 85 from 111 balls.
However the 5th ball after lunch broke the partnership as Will Rhodes dismissed Phillipe for 37 from 58 balls; the partnership had only added 2 more and the score was 154-3. Forty minutes after lunch a heavy shower hit the ground with the score at 191-3 (Harte 63 no from 99 balls with 11 fours. Play resumed at 3pm with no loss of overs.
Harte went on to complete his century in 153 balls with 16 fours and at tea he remained unbeaten on 105. James Logan had struck twice and Durham were 295-5. Durham declared at 6.07 pm having reached 393-5. Harte was unbeaten on 160 from 234 balls (22 fours) and shared an unbroken partnership of 125 in 189 balls with Podmore who finished on 51 no from 94 balls with 6 fours.
This left Yorkshire to face 8 overs but, unfortunately we lost Jonny Tattersall to the last ball of the day for 14 and we closed on 34-1, Alex Lees 20 no from 33 balls.
