And with Ryan Sidebottom and Jack Brooks to open the bowling and then Liam Plunkett and Ben Coad to follow them, Worcesteshire were quickly reduced to 88/5.
But then , the home side dug in with Wicket-Keeper Alex Milton leading the way. He and Jack Haynes added 29 for the sixth wicket. Then Ben Twohig contributed to a seventh wicket stand of 51 and finally Dillon Pennington and Milton added 77 for the eighth wicket before Milton was dismissed by the persevering Ben Coad for 91.
Jack Brooks took three wickets, Sidebottom, Coad and Jack Shutt two each. Will Rhodes chipped in with a caught & bowled to remove Pennington on 49.
Then the rain arrived and, once it had stopped, Yorkshire had three overs to bat and ended the day on 2/0.
