Day 1 – Yorkshire lost the toss and had to take first use of a wicket that provided seam bowlers with plenty of help.
By the lunch break, Yorkshire had lost five wickets for just 128, which soon became 140 for 6 soon after the restart.
But then the fightback began. Jack Leaning was the mainstay of the innings whilst wickets fell at the other. Azeem Rafiq joined him and the pair added 89 for the seventh wicket before Rafiq departed for 59 (73 deliveries with eight boundaries).
Matthew Fisher then joined Leaning and the eighth wicket added another 72 (Fisher 30).
So Yorkshire had doubled the score for the loss of just one more wicket. The innings folded soon after tea for 302, securing the maximum four batting points, which had seemed highly unlikely shortly after lunch.
The pitch appeared to have eased and the Derbyshire opening pair added 82 before Will Rhodes induced an edge from Rahib Ali, which Jonathan Read caught. Derbyshire ended a full day`s play on 89/1.
