Report: MCC Young Cricketers v Yorkshire 2nd XI (Day 1)

— 4 May 2017

The game commenced under leaden skies with the Young Cricketers winning the toss and batting.

Our new ball pairing, Sidebottom and Brooks each took a wicket to reduce them to 41-2. However Finn and Manuwelge remained unbeaten at lunch taking the score to 145-2, Finn 55* from 67 balls with 10 fours and Manuwelge 53* from 101 balls with 11 fours.

Their partnership extended to 174 from 235 balls before Finn was caught behind attempting to pull Brooks for 95 (122 balls with 15 fours and 2 maximums). As is often the case Manuwelge departed shortly after caught and bowled by Brooks for 82 from 152 balls, including 16 fours and the Young Cricketers were 220-4.

James Logan took 2 wickets in an over and MCC were 235-6. This became 269-7 at tea.

Late order resistance proved very stubborn and following a brief stoppage for bad light, they were dismissed for 362, with 3 wickets each for Brooks and Logan.

1 over was faced before bad light again stopped play and we closed at 3-0.
