Report: Lancashire 2nd XI v Yorkshire 2nd XI (Day 1)

James Wainman led the charge as Yorkshire dismissed Lancashire for 257 on Day 1 of their Second XI Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old left-arm seamer, who impressed on the Club’s pre-season tour of Dubai, finished with figures of 5-42 from 18 overs with 7 maidens.

With the hosts having elected to bat, only Karl Brown fell before 2.20pm, with David Willey removing him lbw for nine with 21 on the board.

At lunch Rob Jones and Callum Turner had taken the score to 77-1 and had moved to 105 when Wainman had the latter caught behind for 47.

Yorkshire then reduced their opponents to 139-6. Jones departed, taken at second slip by Jordan Thompson off Wainman for a patient 42 from 42 balls, but a partial recovery was led by Arron Lilley and at tea they were 173-7, Lilley being 21no.

Lilley upped his strike rate after the interval until he was stumped by Jonny Read from Karl Carver’s bowling for 41 from 36 balls. Skipper, Simon Kerrigan entered the game batting at number nine, but he was last man out for 56 from 58 balls having struck seven fours and two sixes.

Lancashire were all out for 257, with skipper Willey taking three wickets and Carver claiming a pair. Wicket-keeper Read also had six dismissals.

The White Rose had progressed to 25 without loss from 11 overs when Kerrigan introduced himself in to the attack. In his first over, he had Eliot Callis lbw for 18 and four balls later bowled Willey.

Will Rhodes joined Tattersall and at the close Yorkshire were 31-2.
