Club urges fans to back development plans

— 12 July 2016

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club would like its Members and supporters to get behind the plans for the redevelopment of the Main Stand at Headingley, together with the plans for the development of two plots of land in Tingley and Weetwood.

The Club issued plans for the redevelopment of the stand with Leeds Rhinos back in February of this year. The plans can only be delivered through the sale of two plots of land in Tingley and Weetwood, which will create over 200 new homes in the city with 100% of the net receipts from the sale of the site being invested in the improvements at Headingley.

Mark Arthur, Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Chief Executive Officer has urged Members and Supporters to show their support to ensure the future of international cricket at Headingley.

“The schedule for international cricket has been confirmed until the end of 2019. However, with other Major Match Venues investing huge amounts in recent years, it is imperative that the redevelopment of Headingley goes ahead,” Arthur said.

“Headingley has an enviable history of staging great international matches and producing great international players. Its progression must match that of Yorkshire County Cricket Club on and off the field to ensure that the historic venue creates more memorable moments.

“If the ground is unable to evolve, this would inevitably reduce the number of days of international cricket being played at the ground and see Headingley potentially stripped of its Test Match status.

“Yorkshire have more cricket clubs and players than any other county and it is our ambition to continue to grow the game in the years to come through our various community projects. The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are leading projects such as the development of Bradford Park Avenue, the South Asian Communities projects, and the Drax Cup, a competition that sees more than 20,000 boys and girls participating in cricket in the Yorkshire and Teeside region.

“Your support will ensure that Yorkshire County Cricket Club is able to support more community projects. We believe that the redevelopment will preserve the future of international cricket in Yorkshire and benefit the wider community.”
