ECB today announced next summer’s Major Match schedule and Headingley will be hosting a Royal London One Day International in May and an Investec Test Match in August.
England will begin their One Day Series with a day/night fixture against South Africa at Headingley on Wednesday 24th May. Headingley will also be staging the 2nd Investec Test Match against the West Indies from Friday 25th to Tuesday 29th August.
Mark Arthur, Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Chief Executive Officer said: “We are delighted to be hosting an Investec Test Match again in August and look forward to welcoming the West Indies to Headingley.
“There is a real appetite for Test Match cricket in Yorkshire and we are really looking forward to the prospect of staging the 2nd Investec Test Match in a summer month, over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
“Next year is the 50th anniversary of the Chapeltown Carnival and with England hosting a Test Match against the West Indies at the same time, it is a great opportunity for Leeds to showcase itself to the world.
“The hosting of the 1st Royal London ODI of the South African series will be the last match before we embark upon the development of the Football Stand end of the ground, in partnership with Leeds Rugby, and we will be retaining our current capacity for this match.
“England’s one-day team are in a rich vein of form and currently boast five Yorkshire players, which is a great endorsement for Yorkshire’s production line of cricketers.
“With this year’s Royal London One Day International against Pakistan on-course for a sell-out, it promises to be another popular fixture for international supporters in the region.”
The Royal London One-Day Cup Final has been brought forward from its traditional mid-September date to a new mid-summer slot in early July.
