The first played game of the season, the stayed shining for the Academy to bring home a full 10 points.
The Academy had a slow start as Driffield quickly reduced us to 11 for 2. Ben Ainsley (52) and Mosun Hussain (41) made a much needed partnership of 79 before Ben was stumped on 52 returning from drinks. Hussain soon followed with 41. The Academy fell to 148 for 7, a small total looked on the cards for the county side.
An 8th wicket partnership off 44 runs between Jared Warner(31) and Jonathan Read (17) took the side to a respectable total of 192 before both falling short of the 50 overs. Shutt and Logan batted out finishing on 196.
The Academy took an early wicket but Driffield were soon 41 for 1. Suddenly, spin bowlers Logan and Shutt came to make a dramatic impact on the field.
Taking his first over at the crease this year, Shutt (2 for 18) dismisses two batsman. Logan was soon follow in the successes claiming his first victim at 53 for 4. Logan continued his fine form with a triple wicket maiden reducing Driffield Town to 53 for 7.
Four overs later and James Logan (7 for 16) creates another double wicket maiden taking the travelling side to 58 for 9. It looked like an early finish when opening bowler Ezard came to assist keeper Goddard at the crease. The pair battle through the spin to take their side to 79 before Goddard was caught for 19.
A cracking bowling performance to start off the season…
I’m interested to see what happens next week when we play our away fixture at Dunnington.
