A gloriously sunny day made way for the League Cup final at York on Sunday. With a home advantage, York won the toss and elected to bat.
The opening pair Lambert and Whatley started well securing 38 off the first 6 overs, until Waite gave Whatley his exit ticket with a catch at deep mid-wicket. Lambert followed immediately after.
Brother’s Liam and Ryan McKendry put on a partnership of 28 before both falling to spin bowler Logan. A further four wickets fell in quick succession reducing York to 85 for 8 with Logan finishing with figures of three for 26.
Pringle and Elliot made a glimmer of hope for the home side with a partnership of 52 to push York to 139 until Pringle was caught at point. Elliot continued this good form creating another 21 before being dismissed by Waite claiming 4 for 39.
The Academy came out to bat steadily chasing the target of 160. Callis and Hussain put on 83 before Hussain (35) was caught behind.
Thirty runs had passed before spinner Pringle claimed his second victim with a catch at mid-off by overseas Whatley.
Callis went on to achieve 50 runs not out whilst captain Matthew Waite, 41 not out including six boundaries carried his side to victory scoring two successive maximums to complete the days play. He also picked up the man-of-the-match.
A fantastic finish to a double winning weekend. Hopefully we can reproduce this next week when we play our final league fixture at Castleford on Saturday followed by the Black Sheep Trophy Final at Elsecar on Sunday.
