A cold breezy day on the north-sea coast saw the Academy away at Scunthorpe for the penultimate league fixture of the 2015 season. The academy won the toss and elected to bat.
The side began well creating 22 runs off three overs until seam bowler Forrester started to take effect, dismissing both opening batsmen within two consecutive overs.
Opening bowler Fowler quickly supported his colleague with a short ball to Hussain. The captain, Waite made a much needed and quick 31 taking the travelling side to 76 when he was caught by keeper Grimes. The side then struggled, losing 5 wickets for just 20 runs.
It looked set for an early finish at 96 for 9 until Logan and Read made a last wicket stand of 58 to produce a semi-defendable score of 154. D Heath made a dramatic affect taking four for 19.
The home side came out strong quickly reaching 22 before losing their first wicket to spin bowler Logan. The Academy struggled to continue in the success. D Heath and Lindley pressed forward securing 52 runs before Heath was dismissed.
20 runs later Logan picked up his second success with a catch at mid-off by Warner. There was still a long way to go to take home a victory, for either side.
Two further wickets fell consecutively with spinners Logan and Imtiaz taking the credit. In between bowling changes, Warner claimed his first victim reducing the home side to 114 for 6. Logan completed his bowling for the day taking his fifth wicket, finishing on 5/45 off 17 overs.
Appleby Frodingham needed 26 runs whilst the academy required 2 wickets. Imtiaz completed his remaining over taking 3/37. The following ball Waite replaced Logan to successful claim the victory with another catch for the keeper Read.
The Yorkshire academy had successfully defended their low target to claim the full 8 points.
Tomorrow’s game against York will prove an exciting challenge for the young side in the Yorkshire League Cup Final.
