With the burning hot sun shining down Sheffield Collegiate elected to bat. The Academy fast bowlers quickly put Collegiate on the back foot at 24 for 2. Stuart Guy came to join Billy Root at the crease but bowler Thompson dismissed Root after a short partnership of 39.
Daniel Priestly assisted Guy in his quest. The pair made a partnership of 107 before Priestly (28) was dismissed. Guy (95) fell shortly after to a catch at gully by Firn. Collegiate were suddenly 174 for 5 after being 169 for 3.
Another quick jolt of 33 runs between Simpson and keeper, Patmore took Collegiate over the 200 mark before spin bowlers Carver and Imtiaz took control. The bowling pair reduced the side to 233 all out with Imtiaz taking five wickets, (5/71) and Carver (1/35).
After a swift team talk at tea, Callis and Ainsley certainly delivered achieving a first wicket partnership of 153. Callis gained a century off 104 balls including 14 fours and 2 maximums whilst Ainsley was run out by ex-yorkshire player Shutt for 38. Mosun Hussain came to assist his colleague at the crease.
Creating a quick partnership this duo took the team above 200 when Hussain was given LBW. Young Brook came in to help Callis score the winning runs making 164 off 151 balls including 21 boundaries and 2 maximums, clearly chocking on his tea helped his batting!
A great performance…let’s hope we can repeat this display in tomorrow’s league game against York at home.
