2nd XI: Sussex v Yorkshire (Day One)

Day 1 of the 4 day friendly at Hove and Yorkshire’s captain Hodgson elected to bat. With the sun shining through the cold sea breeze, Yorkshire get off to a steady start making use of the short boundary. Sussex’s opener Abi Sakande gave Sussex their first wicket taking Ainsley with a catch by the keeper.


A few overs later, James Anyon claimed the second victim reducing Yorkshire to 71 for 2. Hodgson and Hussain carried Yorkshire forward to lunch. The home side soon regained control taking four wickets within 7 overs dismissing the travelling side to 117 for 6.

Joshua Shaw (57) and Nathan Firn put on a tremendous 92 run partnership to put Yorkshire 214 when Shaw was dismissed by left arm spin bowler Van-Buuren.

Wainman came to assist Firn in his quest for runs when Sakande gained his 5th wicket backed by keeper Jackson who supported four of his wickets form behind the stumps (5/49).

Firn (75*) and Ashraf (11*) saw out the day taking the side to 285 for 8 with Firn making his 50 and few more.

Tomorrow is looking bright.
