Yorkshire certainly enjoyed the best of the first day of their final group game in the 2015 U17 County Championship at Repton School yesterday.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat but lost James Brown to the third ball of the morning and Danish Hussain chopped on soon afterwards to leave Yorkshire struggling on 6/2.

But Harry Brook (50) and Bilal Anjum added 79 at a run-a-minute to take their team to the brink of lunch but then both departed and 85/2 became 85/4.

The afternoon and evening sessions were much more productive as Dan McLean and Ed Barnes added 91 for the fifth wicket and Barnes and Sam Fox added 33 for the seventh.
But wickets continued to fall in pairs and, at 191/6, Derbyshire must have felt that they were still in the game but then the eighth wicket stand of 163 between Ed Barnes and James Logan (61*) ensured White Rose supremacy as the declaration arrived at 379/8 with 10 overs left in the day`s play.

Ed Barnes superb effort of 177 covered 225 minutes and he faced 176 deliveries. He hit 18 boundaries and seven maximums and looked rather tired as he was finally dismissed.

So the Derbyshire openers had an awkward period of 10 overs to face and lost two wickets as Mohammed Raffique had both openers caught behind to leave Yorkshire on the verge of the Semi-Finals providing they can get eight more wickets today.
