Academy: Yorkshire hammer Harrogate

— 26 July 2015

This week, the Yorkshire Academy played away at Harrogate following the 2nd XI’s departure on Thursday. Hopefully the day will bring a more favoured outcome. With the wind blowing and the sun hiding Harrogate won the toss and elected to bat.

With young England under 19 recruit Jared Warner opening the bowling, it wasn’t long before the Harrogate side lost their first wicket. Tattersall came to join opening overseas player Ryan at the crease.

A few overs later and Warner claimed the second with a catch at slip by Callis which was followed immediately by an LBW. By the 7th over, Harrogate were 30 for 3. A change of bowling saw another wicket fall, the first caught behind by Read from Rafique.

Left arm spin bowler, Logan joined the action claiming an LBW and another catch by Read at the stumps. Warner returned to reduce Harrogate to 61 for 8 by dismissing leading run scorer Tattersall for 32.

Firn claimed the ninth wicket with another catch in the slips by Thompson. Without passing the 27th over, Logan brought a close to the innings with a straight ball to bring Harrogate to 86. The tea interval was postponed and play continued.

Callis and Ainsley opened the batting putting on 42 before opening spin bowler Foster claimed the wicket with a catch at mid-on by Australian overseas, Ryan. Ainsley (44*) and Mosun Hussain took the team to a 9th wicket victory. A great effort by the team and may their winning streak continue!
