Finch returns to Australia after fracturing foot

— 14 July 2015

Australian international Aaron Finch will miss the rest of Yorkshire’s season after scans confirmed that the batsman has fractured his fifth metatarsal in his right foot. He will return to Australia later today to see a specialist in Melbourne.

The Australia Twenty20 captain picked up the injury during the NatWest T20 Blast victory over Durham Jets on Friday at Headingley.

The 28-year-old has had a run of bad luck with injuries this campaign. He tore his hamstring playing in the Indian Premier League, which kept him sidelined for two months at the start of the summer and only last month he bruised his lung playing for Yorkshire’s Second XI.

  • “That’s the end of the season for Aaron, as far as Yorkshire is concerned,” said director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

“Scans have revealed that he has fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. He will now see a specialist in Melbourne.

“It is a great disappointment for Aaron and the Club and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

The Club has extended Glenn Maxwell’s stay to cover for Finch. The Australian batsman will no longer tour India with Australia A. He will be available for County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup matches.

“The plan is for Glenn to stay with us and not go on tour to India” added Moxon. “He will play for us in all formats.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson will join the Club for the final four games of the Championship campaign at the end of August.
