At least the weather was better at Pudsey Congs yesterday for the One-Day Trophy game after the rain and darkness of the previous three days at Headingley.
Lancashire won the toss and chose to field and had soon disposed of the openers, Hodd and Hodgson. Both fell to catches by Rob Jones off the bowling of Tom Bailey. Jones was to take two more catches, the one to dismiss Richard Pyrah, diving full length at cover, being the undoubted pick of the bunch.
The highlight of the Yorkshire innings was the stand for the third wicket between Glenn Maxwell (39) and Ryan Gibson (33). The pair added 56 in just over eight overs but, once that partnership had been broken, Yorkshire subsided to 161 all out in just 36.3 overs. Some 81 deliveries were unused.
Matthew Waite made a solid 35 but no other batter was able to make a contribution worthy of the name.
Lancashire began their chase and the home bowlers had what turned out to be their only success when Ryan Gibson had Mellor caught behind by the ever-dependable Andrew Hodd. But that was as good as it got as Luke Proctor (79 from 64 deliveries) and Haseeb Hameed (54 from 97) added an unbroken second wicket stand of 133 to see their side to victory in only 29.5 overs.
The 2nd XI have just one game next week and that is on Wednesday at Long Marston, Herts (not the one near Wetherby). There, they take on the Unicorns in their fourth game of this year`s reduced Trophy fixture list.
